Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said he has ordered the Government Savings Bank (GSB) to study whether Loxley GTech Technology's machines for the aborted online lottery can be modified to sell GSB lottery tickets.
The option of modifying the machines is being looked into as a consequence of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's last-minute decision to cancel the online two- and three-digit lottery project because of the possible social impact. The government has to compensate the firm, and is looking for ways to offset the cost. The concession contract was signed by the Thaksin Shinawatra government in 2005.
GSB chief executive Lersak Chuladesa said the bank will have to study whether the software in the machines can be adapted to work with the GSB's computer system.
